A few weeks ago Elana Johnson had this great idea to have a day celebrating the books and authors we love. Today is the day. A bunch of bloggers will be highlighting favorite authors and a lot of us will be giving books away (some people even have SIGNED books to give!) Go check out Elana's blog for a complete list of participants. With so many giveaways the odds are in your favor to win a book or two. And who doesn't like free books?
For me choosing a favorite book is like choosing a favorite child. I just can't do it. So instead I chose a recent read that I really enjoyed: Rebecca Stead's When You Reach Me.
I am not too good at book reviewing, and I really don't want to give anything away (there story has some great surprises), so I'll keep this short and sweet. This was an awesome read--well written, page-turning, and sweet. I was engrossed from beginning to end. It was brilliant, and you don't have to take my word for it, it won the Newbery. Um yeah, that means a lot of other people thought it was great too.
Read it.
I'll be giving away a copy. To win it all you have to do is:
1. Follow this blog
2. Leave a comment telling me about a book you love
I'll pick the winner Wednesday morning. If you comment before midnight on Tuesday, you'll be in the running!
We're doing a blog chain so you can check out all the Spread The Awesome posts if you want to. Next up is Windy Aphayrath. She's highlighting Elizabeth Scott and she's giving away SIGNED books. Enjoy!

This is such a neat idea Natalie, I'm glad that you are in it, I completely missed it, I suppose that's what happens when you take several days off at a time!!! I've heard great things about this book!
I am enjoying all of the blogs this morning on this subject. What a great idea.

I'm taking part today and spreading the love on BLEEDING VIOLET by Dia Reeves. I feel the same way you do about selecting a fav book but this is one I highly recommend. It's so unique!
I have been meaning to read this book, but have failed at decreasing the size of my TBR pile. Sigh. Thanks for rekindling my urge!
Natalie, I have a copy already -- loved it. But great you'll be giving some lucky reader a copy. My daughter just borrowed it, after reading "A Wrinkle in Time," which, as you know, is a bit of a prerequisite to this one.
Happy Monday!
I've been wanting to read that one! It's on my list! Enter me, please! I've been a follower for a while. =)
I'm really loving Eat, Pray, Love. And I finished Will Grayson, Will Grayson in about a day. That book was made of awesome. The Smoke Jumper was also terrific. I couldn't pick just one! I've read some great ones lately.

Oops, forgot to tell you about a book I love! Well, I blogged about Marcelo in the Real World and I did love that book. I also love just about anything by Suzanne Collins, Maggie Stiefvater, Eoin Colfer and Jordan Sonnenblick.
Sounds like an awesome book! I'm highlighting PC and Kristin Cast's House of Night series on my blog - I also really love Diana Gabaldon's Outlander series. Excellent books!
Okay...so cheesy, but my all time favorite books would have to be THE PHANTOM TOLLBOOTH and any of the HARRY POTTER SERIES. I read them whenever I'm sick. They are all the best books to curl up with. They make me feel better lol.
Favorite book: Les Miserables, by Victor Hugo.

Ooo, I've been meaning to pick this book up. I've heard such good things about it. Definitely must add it to my tbr list if I don't win it here. As for books I love, i'm with you, I have SUCH a hard time picking favorites. So I'm just going to go with the book a book I just read--and loved: It's Raining Cupcakes by Lisa Schroeder. With a title like that it HAS to be good--and it was. :)
I just finished this book. I wasn't sure I would like it but in the end I did!
Brilliant book. It's very understated, revealing itself to be more than it lets on--until the very end.
I've never read this, but I really, really want to. Like, a lot.
So, anyways, I did my Spread the Awesome on Garth Stein's THE ART OF RACING IN THE RAIN, a book that is so touching and real that I sobbed through half of it. I'm giving away an autographed copy on le blog.
Another book I really want for my shelf! Great pick.
I'm sold!
My favorite read this year, The Book Thief and Walking on Broken Glass.
Thanks Natalie!
Sounds interesting! I'd love to win it and read it. ;-) I have so many favorites, but one I just read recently that wasn't YA (which is all i usually read) was Guernsey Literary and Potatoe Peel Pie Society.
You got my interest--I'm in! And I posted a Spreading the Awesome book today, too--The Stolen One by Suzanne Crowley.
I love The Shadow of the Wind. I wrote a review on my blog as part of the Spread the Awesome, and I'm giving away a copy of it too.
Thanks for your review and the chance to win this book!
I think I've already mentioned to you how I'm dying to read this one. So now, because of your recommendation, I might put aside the others I'm reading and get to it.
Recently I read the 5th Fablehaven book (Brandon Mull) and really loved it. Sometimes I didn't think the dialogue is as good as it could be, but the whole book was non-stop action so that I couldn't help but love it!
Thanks for the great reccomendation, Natalie!
Yay! Ummmm...I really enjoyed GONE by Michael Grant.
This book is on my wish list - it sounds so good!
I love anything by James Dashner, and I adore the Inkheart trilogy by Cornelia Funke.

Well done, Natalie! I think what's most important is that award, Newbery.
LOVE LOVE LOVE this book! I used it as a read aloud just a few months ago.
And I am a super fan of A Wrinkle In Time - one of my all time favorites!
This book is already on my to-read list. I might have to bump it up higher now!
My favorite Newbery winner is Walk Two Moons by Sharon Creech. The characters are vibrant and quirky, and the ending is unpredictable. Love it!

I have this book on hold! I cannot wait to get it. I like a good surprise. Another fave of mine is MAGIC UNDER GLASS by Jaclyn Dolamore. (I think that's her last name.) I almost chose it over Skin Hunger, that's how good it is.
I really enjoyed When You Reach Me, too. It was so different and cool and fun. Unfortunately, the library wanted it back, so I'd <3 to get a copy of my own. :-D
There have been so many good books I've read lately, but my most recent fave is The Adoration of Jenna Fox - which is why I chose it for the blog tour. :o)
I've been back and forth on this one, but it sounds like I NEED to add it to my TBR list! Thanks Natalie.

I've been wanting to read this book forever! I hope I win! :D As for a book I really love, Where the Red Fern Grows comes to mind. One of those ones I haven't been able to forget since grade school.
