NaNo Sidelines

I am not going to participate in NaNoWriMo (National Writing Month) this year because:

-Last year I tried and failed miserably, writing about 12,000 words that almost all had to be deleted.

-I'm kind of busy this month what with
--my baby who is still way too tiny to sleep more than 3 hours at a time (which means I never sleep more than 3 hours at a time)
--Thanksgiving with 20+ family members at my house

-I'm finally ALMOST done with the manuscript I've been working on for a year and if I just buckle down I might be able to finish it in November.

Still NaNo is tempting because:

-I have a new idea that is WAY different from the project I'm working on and it sounds like more fun.

-Revising my current project is hard work

-I like to make my life as crazy as possible

But don't worry. I'm not going to give in. Maybe I'll try NaNo again next year. This year I'll be doing NaNoReviseMo and *hopefully* finishing this sucker.

Are you doing NaNo this year?

No, I'm revising. I didn't NaNo last year either. One of these years, I'll try it out, though. Good luck with writing, Thanksgiving and baby! Get some rest!

I'm doing Nano this year (to hubby's dismay). Two years ago, when my first son was only a month old during Nano, I didn't bother to try. I was able to completely rewrite a novel last November so hopefully this time around will be just as productive. It's amazing how much more work I get done in November versus any other month.

And new ideas always seem like more fun. It's so easy to become distracted by the shine.

And good luck with Thanksgiving! I've yet to host a Thanksgiving dinner and I'm not sure I ever want to - it's soooo much work!

Yes, Yes, Yes! I'm excited and scared at the same time. I don't want to fail, but figure that any words written is a GREAT thing!

Hosting Thanksgiving is HUGE. I've done it before and it is alot of work. Fun, but tiring. Enjoy!

I'm in even though I really shouldn't be. I have sooo much editing to do, but whatever.

I'm having my second shot at contemporary and this one is set in Australia, so I'm equally excited and terrified.

I am trying it this year, which will be hard since I have a heap of revisions, but I am always up for a challenge especially the perk of writing a snow ball without editing until December we will see wish me luck. Natalie you will finish your manuscript sending plenty of luck your way to get your awesome publisher.

I'm doing NaNo this year, despite knowing it's a very bad time (NaNo will end the week before finals begin for me). But I'm hoping I will end up with a complete MS at the end of it.

Good luck with your revisions! It's so much harder to revise than to write a new draft.

Terri Tiffany said...

Nope. ALready have a MS in the works and I have company for two weeks of November!

Alas, working full time, full time mom, full time wife, working on my current YA and everything that that isn't in the priority this year. Maybe next year, wouldn't that be great!

Gosh, Natalie. That's not "failing miserably" to write 12,000 words, with your brood of kids underfoot and everything else you had to deal with. And so what if the words had to be thrown out later? You still wrote them. That's what counted. And I'm still impressed.

No, I'm not participating. I'm still revising my first novel, which ONLY took me two years to write *coughcough*.

Call me crazy, but yes. It will be a juggling act for sure, but what a great excuse to get this story down that's been begging to be told.

Good luck revising!

Well, I took the plunge this morning. A month will tell if I land in a well of creativity . . . or just go SPLAT!

I'm in the same boat, but for different reasons. I just don't do NaNo...although next year I'm thinking about it.

This month I have to add a chapter to a book I'm trying to get agented, and I'm getting my wisdom teeth pulled next Monday. That means no writing for a week because I can't think on pain pills.

Good luck editing your book! :D

I'm going to participate but mostly because I'm going to be writing anyway. ;)

Good luck with NanoRevisMo! Have a great day!

Oh, wish I could help out with the baby. I remember never sleeping. I looked like a zombie for a while! My thoughts are with you.

No, I'm not NaNo-ing either. But I'm cheering on everyone who is!

Heather Sunseri said...

Hey, Natalie! Hope your sweet baby is doing well!

I'm also trying to finish a manuscript once and for all this month, well, until a real, live agent and editor tells me I need to change it again. Otherwise, this is it!

I'm doing a mini-NaNo of at least 500 words a day to hopefully jumpstart my WIP. I was scared to start, so on Halloween night I thought, "Why not do a form of NaNo and allow myself to stop being self-conscious for the month?" I think I might've procrastinated through the end of the year if I hadn't given it a shot. Good luck finishing your manuscript and hope you have a wonderful Thanksgiving holiday!
