The Author Website

We've had a whole lot of yuck at my house this week. The baby had an ear infection and now he and my 3-year-old have RSV, and my girls are recovering from strep. Not fun.

So I'll keep this short and sweet.

For months I've known I needed to create an author website.

My agent recommends that ALL writers who want to submit their work have a website (not just a blog). Websites are nice because agents and/or editors can look through in just a few minutes and get a pretty good idea of who you are and what you write.

I worried putting up a website would be a ton of work and/or super expensive and/or very time consuming. I didn't want to think about it, so I put it off for months.

Last week I finally decided it was time. I now have an author website www.nataliebahm.com. It's nothing fancy, but I think it will be sufficient for now. And to my surprise, it wasn't hard, it wasn't expensive, and I got it done in just a couple of days.

Do you have an author website? If not, have you thought about creating one?

So sorry your family is sick. Hope they get better soon! I don't have a website but I have thought of creating one. I enjoyed looking at yours! Well-done. :D

Oh, love your website, Natalie! Good for you! It's clean, easy to navigate, and shows off your personality! Everything you want in a website! Especially love your photos!

I also did one - a template, but still. The price was right - FREE at webnode.

Excellent job with the site! No website yet, but maybe one day. I have the same issues with it that you did! But that's interesting to know editors will want to look at it.

Hope everyone feels better soon!

So sorry about your little people. Can't imagine how you do it all. One moment at a time, I suppose. ;)

Your website is great. I especially like the pictures from childhood.

Hope all your kids get better fast!

Your website is adorable. And I like the uncluttered look of it, the clean, simple lines.

Great seeing you as a tween too! That's a lovely idea, since you're writing for that age group. They'll be able to relate.

Ugh- sick kids are no fun. I hope everyone feels better soon!

I have a domain, but nothing on it yet. I feel like I can only do so much- we're supposed to blog, tweet, do Facebook, and have a website.

I need time to write!

Granted, once a website is up, it's done. I should get on that one day soon.

Cute website!

So I see you were an American Studies major. Did you ever have a class from Dr. Jay Buckley? He was one of my fav professors. :)

I'm really not sure why everyone says an author must have a website. I follow John Scalzi's blog and I have no idea if he has a website, nor do I care. A person can do everything they need to on a blog, and it is more dynamic. Websites tend to be rather static and dull.

Firstly as a mother my self I understand how difficult it is when children are ill, I to pray and hope for the best. I also give a shout out to my grandmother who recommends old school remedies that really no one should try but weird as it seem at the time it worked (along with the professional advice of a doctor) LOL Your website is awesome and if you remember I DM you about it, right now my blogger/wordpress is enough hopefully in the near future I will get an affordable, easy website of my own.

Take care.

First of all, hope you guys are all feeling much better now!

Secondly, I need to create an author website as well. I'm hoping to get some updated photos first, and then I have to figure out what style of site I want, and what info I want to include. Yours turned out great.

Nice author website! I created one as soon as my picture books came into being. Back then (2005) I hadn't really heard of blogging and the whole online presence thing was fairly new, but I knew I at least needed at website, and it has served me well. Now, it's been changed a bit to reflect all of my writing, not just my books. But it's remained useful -- and not too complicated. Congrats!
